Dancing Montage

Neat montage of dancing sequences in multiple films.  I was actually happy that Strictly Ballroom made the cut, in addition to White Knights.  Both are two of my favorite films.

Here comes the music

I've known Rich for a few years now - it all started when I interned for KNR Productions, a production company he co-owns with his brother and fellow producer, Kevin Ragsdale (Phantom Love, Big River Man, El Charro, Edmond).  One thing that continuously surprises me is the diversity of Rich's work.  Being the score freak and obsessive collector that I am, listening to Rich's music for the first time back in 2007 gave me one instinct: to get his music out there.  And, with serendipitous chain of events (and many years later), 2m1 Records became interested in his work after listening to a number of promo tracks.  Even better is the fact that I've been directly involved in their development in addition to writing the liner notes and information about each release.  Rich and I have been directly working on obtaining all the mastered tracks for The Curse of El Charro, Nickel Children, Big River Man, Masters of Horror: The Black Cat, and his most recent work to the upcoming documentary called The Mechanical Bride.  I've been having such a great time, and I'm so excited and humbled to be privy to such great work.

Each of these releases can be read about and previewed here by clicking the Music link up top, or an alternative method is going to 2m1 Records itself.

Finally, iPad/iPhone Ready

One of the things in the back of my mind has been to make this site entirely iPhone & iPad compatible.  This is no small feat, since HTML5 is relatively new and Apple won't politely adopt Flash on any of its devices.  However, I'd like to announce that the Photography and Film galleries have both been updated to be compliant on Apple devices.  While the Flash version will play through normal web browsing on computers, a javascript html5 player should activate if browsing on either the iPad or iPhone.  Enjoy!

Laura Veirs & Thomas Newman

Musical crossover happens occasionally, and the interesting element of recognizing it is that it's always instantaneous.  I guarantee that anyone who heard something in the past would recognize it at something familiar if they heard anything remotely similar five to ten years down the line.  Auditory recognition is ingrained in our genetics (that goes for most any animal), most likely a survival technique to remember sounds of our enemies.

One interesting element to take note of is the musical similarity between Thomas Newman's score to Brothers and Laura Veirs' July Flame from her recent album of the same name.  No explanation needs to be mentioned - it's just a neat find.  Listen to the guitar motif and see if you can't spot a similar likeness.

You don't need much

Just goes to show you that one doesn't need much to be creative and have quality output.
